Power Calculations
Add half of the ADD to distance sphere (spectacle Rx in minus cylinder form and vertex if necessary). Order this power.
- Equilibrate for 10 minutes. (Equilibration is ESSENTIAL for accurate over-refraction and evaluation of fit.)
- Lens should be well centered with 0.5 - 1.0mm movement in primary gaze, 1.0 - 1.5mm upward gaze.
- Check distance acuity monocularly in normal room illumination. Over-refract if necessary in 0.25D steps to 20/25.
- Check distance acuity binocularly. Over-refract if necessary in 0.25D steps to 20/20.
- Check near acuity binocularly, with distance over-refraction still in place. Add +0.25D in non-dominant eye if necessary.

PROBLEM SOLVING
- Excessive Movement:
To achieve stability and proper centration, steepen base curve.
- Decentration:
Change diameter and/or base curve.
- Acuity:
0.25D makes a significant difference in acuity, always leave over-refraction in place and re-check near and distance acuities.
- Distance acuity not acceptable:
Add -0.25D to dominant eye
- Near acuity not acceptable:
Add +0.25D to non-dominant eye. For near ADD requirements beyond +1.75D, use SoftSITE, SimulVue 38 or System 250, a combination fit of Unilens 38 (dominant eye) and SimulVue 38 (non-dominant eye).
